Michelangelo's David Sculpture

David

Michelangelo's David is a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture, created between 1501 and 1504. Carved from a single block of marble, this colossal statue depicts the biblical hero David before his battle with Goliath. It is celebrated for its anatomical accuracy, heroic nudity, and intense psychological presence.

Originally intended for the buttresses of Florence Cathedral, the statue was instead placed in the Piazza della Signoria, serving as a symbol of the Florentine Republic's defiance and freedom. It is now housed in the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence.
